The formation of Affordable Veterinary Consulting required the joint talents of key individuals, each with a strong skill set in a specific area of expertise, to create a systematic solution to practical veterinary consulting.

The consultants on the AVC team share a combined focus to provide veterinary practices the most carefully considered and growth-oriented plan for achieving success.

Randy Carsch, DVM

Dr. Randy Carsch received his DVM from Texas A&M in 1980. In addition to his achievements as a successful veterinary practice owner, he has also applied his knowledge in veterinary medicine to business management. He is a principal with Affordable Veterinary Consulting, as well as the president of Consulting for the Veterinarian by the Veterinarian, providing consulting, strategic planning and team building tactics for individual veterinary hospitals with gross incomes up to $3.8 million. His protocol modules have resulted in an average clinic gross increase of 22% (upward to 40% for some hospitals). He is also the president of Fair Fees Solutions, Inc. which offers innovative software to assist veterinary practices in setting a formulated fee schedule while controlling employee labor, taxes, and benefits.

In 1984, Dr. Carsch purchased his first clinic in the Pacific Northwest for $76,000. He sold it 14 years later for over $1 million dollars in cash. He went on to merge a practice and start a practice from scratch. As a practice owner he used numerous consultants to assist him to grow his practices and train him in the art of being a veterinary practice owner.

Dr. Carsch’s successful veterinary business approach has led him to also be an Advisor to PetCare Television Network, an original beta tester for the Banfield Optimal Wellness Program, and the first consultant of Burns Consultative Services. He has also been appointed to the Task Force of Veterinary Economics for the State of Texas, and is an active speaker for numerous veterinary association chapters, presenting at such venues as the Southwest Veterinary Symposium, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Carsch works with corporate clients to develop pilot programs for veterinary hospitals, focusing on inventory control, fee schedules, and designing, implementing, and tracking clinic protocols.

Dr. Carsch is a natural teacher. His energy, passion, enthusiasm and belief in the future of veterinary medicine are evident in the commitment he gives to bringing out the best in every veterinary practice and corporate client he consults for.

"In one case, [Dr. Carsch] was able to obtain a 300% increase in sales price over the evaluation done prior to being hired."

Kim Fish
Practice Operations Coach

Kim Fish is the staff training educational specialist on the AVC team. She is also the School Director at Veterinary Technical Institute, a private postsecondary school offering national-based training programs and professional development systems in the veterinary field for over 14 years. During her tenure she has been integral in creating a dynamic approach to learning for veterinary practice managers and staff in need of building comprehensive skills and a core knowledge base.

Her staff training programs have evolved in to the development of a veterinary consulting system that has positively impacted hundreds of clinics across the country. She believes that for a practice to prosper in veterinary medicine, the staff needs to be trained and utilized to bring value to the clinic, to grow their team, improve client and animal care, and generate revenue.

Ms. Fish received her B.S. degree in Animal Physiology from the University of California, San Diego, where she graduated on the Dean’s List. Knowing that veterinary medicine was in her career path, she combined her experience in start-up company development with her biology-based education and created Veterinary Technical Institute from the ground up. She has authored three textbooks, developed original veterinary program curricula, and formulated an interactive mode of instructional delivery at a time when “online” education was hardly conceived. This was a pioneered effort under the Florida Department of Education. She has adapted her high-tech approach to instructional delivery to the unique staff training modules used in the AVC system.

Challenge and adversity is what keeps Ms. Fish focused on determining methods to best meet the “needs” of the veterinary profession, particularly addressing the current economic climate.

Scott Anderson
Practice Operations Analyst

Scott Anderson brings with him a varied and successful background in veterinary business management. His work in the field began in the 1980s when he became involved with purchasing and rejuvenating several veterinary practices. He became specialized in data analysis and evaluating practice operations to enhance the delivery of medical services in his practice partnerships. In addition to practice acquisition, rejuvenation, and resale, Scott and his partners also built new practices from the ground up. This experience gave him a broad and firm basis in the operations and management of veterinary practices.

Since that initial partnership, Scott has since consulted for over 250 small, medium, and large-scale veterinary practices nationwide, including multi-practice groups. The basis of his consulting focuses on the measurement, planning, and monitoring of practice operations. Scott realized early on in his career the importance of utilization of veterinary software. Information fed to the computer and analysis drawn from the specifically generated reports provided essential information to help him to advise

practice owners and staff in making improvements to practice operations and profitability.

With over 25 years of veterinary practice consulting experience, Mr. Anderson has realized the importance of the proper application of veterinary software. His consulting business uses computer generated data and a solid understanding of practice operations to properly assess the client’s numbers and develop plans for practice enhancement. This, combined with an understanding of the human factors involved in practice management, has allowed him to evaluate opportunities to standardize and enhance operations and correct inconsistencies in the delivery of services to standardize the delivery of good patient and client care.

In addition to his involvement with AVC, Scott is a partner in a practice in Northern California. Several of the systems developed by AVC have been implemented at this practice, producing a 12% growth rate in difficult economic times – evidence that Affordable Veterinary Consulting systems work well with practice owners and managers who seek to improve practice performance.
